Presentation

Longstanding refractory epilepsy. Left sided weakness for one day. Possible stroke.

Open grey matter lined cleft with CSF density extending from the right lateral ventricular body to frontoparietal cortex peripherally.

Absent cavum septum pellucidum.

Case Discussion

Schizencephaly is divided into two morphological types: open and closed lip

With open lip, as in this case, the cleft walls are separated and filled with CSF.  The frontoparietal region is the commonest location as in this patient.

It is one of the structural causes of epilepsy.
