Trauma to foot. Pain in mid foot lateral/fibular aspect.

5th metatarsal fracture (lucent line perpendicular to 5th metatarsal bone) and normal apophysis (lucent line along 5th metatarsal bone).

5th metatarsal fracture and normal apophysis.

Case Discussion

Normal apophysis is along long axis of 5th metatarsal bone. Another lucent line at right angles to the long axis of the 5th metatarsal bone is an undisplaced fracture.
