Right middle lobe pneumonia (pediatric)

Presentation

High fever, cough, dyspnoe, circumoral cyanosis, reduced oxygen saturation

Initial CXR

x-ray

Circumscribed consolidation overlying the right hilum (see key image), enlarged hila (key image 2), increased bronchovascular markings.

Control CXR two weeks later

x-ray

Regression of the right-sided consolidation and hilar enlargement (see comparison image). Bronchovascular markings still moderately increased. 

Case Discussion

Typical presentation of right middle lobe pneumonia and diffuse bronchitis in children, with consequent enlargement of the hila due to lymphadenopathy. The pneumonia was successfully treated using broad spectrum antibiotics.
