Patient Data
Semilunar smooth filling defect is present at junction of mid & distal oesophagous, most consistent with a submucosal mass.
There is a smoothly marginated oval soft-tissue mass, which arises from right wall of lower esophagus, displaces the esophagus, and narrows the lumen without sign of invasion. Punctate calcifications are noted within the mass. No lymphadenopathy.
Case Discussion
Typical appearance of esophageal leiomyoma (pathology proven), a benign smooth muscle neoplasm which may occur in the esophagus. It is the most common benign tumor of the esophagus and typically involve the mid-to-distal esophagus.
