Case Discussion

Post-operative cholangiography is routinely performed 7-10 days after biliary surgery. 20-30ml of non-ionic water-soluble contrast media is injected through T-tube into the biliary system. The contrast should be injected slowly into the tube, as injection with high pressure can result in cholangiovenous reflux and septicemia in cases with biliary obstruction. Care should also be taken not to inject air bubbles, as it may mimic calculi.
