Presentation
Headache, nasal obstruction and facial pain over the last 4 months. The patient gave history of previous dental surgery.
Patient Data
Opacification of the left maxillary sinus and ethmoidal air cells with mucosal reaction and obliteration of the osteomeatal complex with a rod shape metallic foreign body seen at the antrum of the maxillary sinus likely post dental instrumentation.
Evidence of crown placement of the left upper 1st molar tooth which is related to the foreign body.
Case Discussion
Isolated inflammation of the maxillary sinus should raise the possibility of associated dental problem or intervention. It is estimated that 75% of patients with maxillary sinusitis are due to dental causes.
