Presentation
Fall at school. Pain to left hip. Unable to weightbear.
Patient Data
AP radiograph is abnormal. There is widening of the physis but no displacement. The frog view highlights the slipped femoral epiphysis.
Case Discussion
This patient had a left hip x-ray because they presented with a focal trauma. In almost all circumstances, in this age group, it is more sensible to perform a pelvic radiograph.
The frog-view confirms the diagnosis as slipped capital (upper) femoral epiphysis.
The inability to weightbear is a concerning feature and in patients with a slip means that it is almost certainly unstable and requires urgent orthopedic assessment.
