Pulmonary arteriovenous malformation

Case contributed by Hani Makky Al Salam
Diagnosis certain

Presentation

Withheld.

Lobulated mass-like density in the left lung adjacent to the heart border. A prominent vessel is noted extending to the mass from the pulmonary hilum. Appearance is suggestive of a pulmonary arteriovenous malformation. After adjusting the image contrast, a similar lesion is seen in the right lung base behind the diaphragm.

CT confirms the mass-like lesions seen on chest x-ray to be arteriovenous malformations.

Case Discussion

Multiple pulmonary arteriovenous malformations. It is unclear whether this patient had underlying hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia, which around 50% of patients with multiple pulmonary AVMs will have.
