Renal cell carcinoma with renal vein thrombosis

Diagnosis probable

Presentation

Gross hematuria, flank pain, and palpable flank mass.

Patient Data

Age: Adult
Gender: Male

Non-contrasted CT Abdomen reveals an enlarged left kidney with irregular margins and left perinephric fat stranding. There is also fusiform dilatation of the left renal vein suspicious of venous thrombosis. High attenuated deposits in the urinary bladder are likely in keeping with blood product.

Case Discussion

CT features are suggestive of renal cell carcinoma or Hypernephroma. Gross hematuria, flank pain, and palpable flank mass are the classical triad.

Renal vein thrombosis: opacified periureteral and perinephric ("cobwebs") collaterals, renal vein attenuation and enlargement.
