Tuberculosis

Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

History of recurrent chest infection for 3 years and history of contact with tuberculosis infected patient.

Patient Data

Age: 12 years
Gender: Female
x-ray

PA and lateral chest radiographs show left lower lobe collapse/consolidation associated with left lung airspace disease.

Five days later

x-ray

Follow up PA chest radiograph after 5 days shows progression of the disease with involvement of the right lung.

Decreased volume of the left lung with extensive tree-in-bud pattern of pulmonary nodules and few pulmonary thick-walled cavities.

Complete consolidation collapse of left lower lobe.

Multiple calcified lymph nodes are seen involving mediastinal, hilar and porta hepatis groups.
