The MRI sequences demonstrate a mixed cystic and solid mass, arising from the lower spinal cord, extending from T11-T12 up to L2-L3 level. The cystic component is of low signal on T1, high signal on T2 and STIR with a thin rim of peripheral enhancement. The solid component is located at L2-L3 level and shows an intermediate to low signal on T2 with a relatively homogeneous enhancement on postcontrast sequences. Intramedullary edema is noted in the proximal spinal cord from T9 to T11 level. Posterior vertebral scalloping is noted at several levels. No tumoral extension through the neural exit foramen is seen.

Case Discussion

MRI features of a spinal tumor arising from the lower spinal cord and extending up to L2-L3 level probably a myxopapillary ependymoma.
