Accessory abductor digiti minimi muscle (hand)

Case contributed by Maulik S Patel
Diagnosis certain

Presentation

An incidental finding.

Patient Data

Age: 45 years
Gender: Female

There are two hypoechoic muscle slips crossing the Guyon's tunnel. They have a common origin in the midline wrist and extend to the ulnar palmar region to join the abductor digiti minimi muscle. The two slips encase the patent ulnar artery. The deeper slip separates the ulnar artery from the ulnar nerve. The ulnar nerve shows a normal echopattern without edema.

Case Discussion

The ultrasound shows an accessory abductor digiti minimi muscle which is one of the common accessory muscles.

MRI is not available for comparison.
