Presentation
Right hip and thigh pain. Suspected of AVN or osteoarthritis of the right hip.
Patient Data
Evidence of chronic transverse fracture of right acetabulum.
The rest of the imaged bones are normal.
Both femoral heads are normal in morphology and signal intensity with normal cartilaginous surfaces.
No evidence of AVN or significant osteoarthritis.
There is no evidence of joint effusion.
The CT images confirm the old fracture of the acetabular roof with sclerotic margins.
Case Discussion
No clear clinical history of traumatic insult was present hence the treating physician was suspected of degenerative or avascular necrosis of the hip; however, the imaging studies confirmed the fracture and excluded the other two entities.
