Acoustic schwannoma (large with intratumoral hemorrhage)

Presentation

Headache and vomiting.

Patient Data

Age: 70
Gender: Female

Rounded hyperdense lesion with mild surrounding edema in the left cerebellopontine angle.

Left cerebellopontine angle extra-axial mass with a hemorrhagic component. It shows extension through the internal auditory meatus and displays enhancement onthe post-contrast study.

Case Discussion

Diagnosis of acoustic schwannoma was proven following resection.

Histology:

Spindle cell proliferation with irregular nuclei and occasional palisading. Sclerotic, hyalinized  blood vessels. Focal chronic inflammation with perivascular lymphoid infiltrates and hemosiderin-laden macrophages.

Final diagnosis: Acoustic schwannoma
