Case contributed by Dai Roberts
Diagnosis not applicable

Presentation

For a diagnostic/therapeutic ultrasound-guided injection.

Patient Data

Age: 55 years
Gender: Female

Ultrasound images show the 25G needle cannulating the ACJ in a transverse orientation, with the image stack showing the spread of the corticosteroid containing injectate.

Case Discussion

Ultrasound-guided procedures offer many advantages and direct visualization of the needle is key to a successful injection.  An 'in-plane' technique, as shown above, means the needle path is parallel to the probe face, optimizing the view of the needle.
