Presentation

Right iliac fossa pain for 2 days.

Patient Data

Age: 25 years
Gender: Female
ultrasound

Abdominal ultrasound shows an elongated aperistaltic tubular cystic structure at the right iliac fossa. It lies near to the cecum. It measures 9 mm in outer to outer diameter. It shows an increased wall vascularity within with a rim of fluid is seen on the Douglas pouch.

Case Discussion

A clinically suspected appendicitis based on right iliac fossa pain and positive rebound. WBCS was 17000. An abdominal ultrasound shows an elongated tubular cystic structure at the right iliac fossa. It lies near to the cecum. It measures 9 mm in outer to outer diameter. An inflamed appendix was demonstrated on surgery with inflammation and reactions extending into the adjacent fat and small bowel. Acute appendicitis was proved later pathologically.
