Adenocarcinoma of the cervix

Presentation

Vaginal bleeding.

Patient Data

Age: 80 years
Gender: Female

A large lobulated soft tissue mass with heterogeneous enhancement (measuring 10 x 8 x 7 cm) centered on the uterine cervix, invading the uterine cavity, upper 2/3 of the vagina and compressing the left lower ureter. No apparent extension to the anterior rectal wall or posterior bladder wall. No pelvic or para-aortic lymphadenopathy.

Lytic lesion with a soft tissue component of the right iliac bone suggestive of metastasis. No other metastatic lesion was seen on the bone window (not shown).

Both lungs are clear (lung window not shown).

Case Discussion

CT features of a large soft tissue mass centered on the cervix, invading the uterine cavity and upper 2/3 of the vagina with a metastatic lesion of the right iliac bone, histologically proven as adenocarcinoma.

Adenocarcinoma of the cervix is a histological subtype of carcinoma of the cervix. It is less common than squamous cell carcinomas (SCC) of the cervix, accounting for ~12.5% of all cervical cancer.
