Case contributed by Praveen Jha
Diagnosis certain

Presentation

Antenatal check-up (at 39 weeks of gestation). She had a regular antenatal ultrasound done at another center, however, no gross abnormality was detected earlier.

Patient Data

Age: 39 week gestation
Gender: Female
ultrasound

Sonographic visibility is compromised due to mature skull at 39 weeks.

Dilated occipital horns of lateral ventricles is seen with parallel appearance of bilateral lateral ventricles. Sagittal images could not show corpus callosum properly. Patient was advised for a post-natal MRI.

Post-natal MRI

mri

Post-natal MRI confirms the findings of corpus callosum agenesis.

Case Discussion

Colpocephaly is frequently associated with partial or complete corpus callosal agenesis. Although visualization of corpus callosum may be limited in antenatal scans, ventricular trigones and orientation of ventricles are often well visible. This may be a useful pointer to the associated anomaly.
