Aneurysmal bone cyst

Presentation

left hip pain for 1 year

Patient Data

Age: 17
Gender: Female

This x-ray demonstrates an area of lucency at the left femoral neck.

Patient went on to have MRI...

Patient went on to have MRI of Lt hip for further evaluation of the area of lucency

This MRI demonstrates a T1 hypointense and T2 hyperintense lesion in the neck of femur anteriorly with surrounding edema. Cortical defect is also noted anteriorly. Extracortical collection (T1 and T2 hypointense) with surrounding rim enhancement is also noted extending through the cortical defect. These findings suggestive of a bone cyst complicated by fracture and hematoma.

Case Discussion

Patient subsequently underwent prophylactic pinning of her left neck of femur. Histology confirmed aneurysmal bone cyst.
