Presentation

Sudden spontaneous onset of left sided flank and abdominal pain.

Patient Data

Age: Adult

Left fat density mass arising from the cortex of the left kidney with surrounding hemorrhage. 

Case Discussion

This case demonstrates a left sided fat density mass arising from the cortex of the left kidney with surrounding hemorrhage. The features and presentation are characteristic of a renal angiomyolipoma (AML) which, especially when large, present with spontaneous retroperitoneal hemorrhage. This condition is also sometimes termed as Wunderlich syndrome.
