Anorexia nervosa - gelatinous marrow transformation

Presentation

Follow up in calcaneal stress fracture. Anorexia nervosa.

Patient Data

Age: 55 years
Gender: Female

Low field exam. Bone marrow moderate low-intensity signal, somehow patchy in T1. Osteoblastic reaction at the stress fracture site in the lower part of the calcaneus. On fat-sat sequences (STIR sagittal and Dixon coronal) high signal intensity of the bone marrow. Edema at the fracture site is difficult to appreciate due to bone marrow transformation.

Case Discussion

There is relatively high signal in fat suppressed sequencies (STIR and Dixon technique). Moderate low intensity signal in T1 sequencies. Healing calcaneal stress fracture.
