Anterior superior iliac spine avulsion fracture

Presentation

Trauma - MVA. The patient was assessed initially with trauma radiographs according to the ATLS. Select pelvis radiograph and select CT images are shown and discussed.

Patient Data

Age: 40 years
Gender: Female

Curvilinear osseous density adjacent to the left anterior superior iliac spine, compatible with an avulsion fracture. No further fracture seen. 

 Lumbar vertebral bodies are normally aligned. Minimally displaced fractures of left transverse process of L1-3. Avulsion fracture of the anterior superior iliac spine on the left. The remainder Chest, Abdomen and Pelvis studies are unremarkable (not shown). ​

Case Discussion

ASIS avulsion, like other pelvic avulsion injuries, is a stable fracture.
