Presentation

Ankle twist - 6 weeks back. Complaining of lateral ankle region pain and swelling.

Patient Data

Age: 25 years
Gender: Male

Complete discontinuity of the anterior talofibular ligament. Extension of the fluid from the anterolateral recess of the ankle to the subcutaneous plane.

Hypoechoic thickening of the calcaneofibular ligament with continuity maintained.

Normal anterior inferior tibiofibular ligament and peroneal tendons.

The asymptomatic side was examined for comparison.

Case Discussion

Complete tear of the anterior talofibular ligament with a tear of overlying joint capsule suggested by joint fluid extension to the subcutaneous plane. Associated calcaneofibular ligament sprain
