Presentation
Trauma. Background of arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy.
Patient Data
Dual-chamber implantable cardioverter-defibrillator in situ.
Markedly dilated right ventricle with thinning and fatty infiltration of the ventricular wall in keeping with arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy.
No mediastinal injury or other acute trauma. Old rib fractures.
Case Discussion
Typical CT appearances of arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC) with a dilated right ventricle and fatty infiltration and atrophy of the RV wall.
Patients with arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy are prone to arrhythmia and resultant sudden cardiac death, hence why this patient has an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) in situ.
