Asymmetric flow in sigmoid sinus

Case contributed by A.Prof Frank Gaillard

Asymmetric flow in sigmoid sinus mimicking a possible dural venous sinus thrombosis on the left.

Normal flow is demonstrated on MRV.

Case Discussion

Often MRI is thought of as the best way of examining the cerebral venous circulation. This may be true in certain situations but care must be taken as compared to CT venography, there are far more traps and artefacts that can mimic or hide thrombosis.
