Avulsion fracture of the 5th metatarsal styloid (Pseudo-Jones)

Case contributed by Dr David Cuete

Fall with forced inversion, pain in region of the fifth metatarsal

Patient Data

Age: 40

There is a intra-articular avulsion fracture of the base of the 5th metatarsal of the left toe which is associated with increased volume and density of adjacent soft tissues. The mid foot alignment is normal. Joint spaces of normal range, regular margins, without evidence of erosions or bone proliferation. No intra or periarticular calcifications.

Case Discussion

This  fracture is located too proximal and reaches the articular surface, and is therefore not a Jones fracture.
