There are areas of low signal on T1WI, high signal on T2WI/FLAIR with restricted diffusion involving the brainstem (pons, midbrain and medulla oblongata) suggestive of a non hemorrhagic infarction. The MRA 3D-TOF shows complete occlusion of the basilar artery and vertebral arteries. The sagittal T1WI and axial FLAIR show loss of flow void within the basilar artery.
Case Discussion
MRI features of a brainstem infarction due to an acute basilar artery occlusion.
