Low back pain and blastic lumbar lesion.

Patient Data

Age: 55 years
Gender: Female
Nuclear medicine

Coronal SPECT-CT image shows increased radiotracer uptake at the level of the articulation between enlarged transverse process of the lumbosacral transitional vertebra and the right sacral aspect.

Case Discussion

Bertolotti syndrome, which refers to the association between lumbosacral transitional vertebrae (LSTV) and low back pain, can be seen on radiographs, CT or MRI but changes from associated biomechanics stress are not usually apparent. SPECT-CT plays an important role in determining the source of low back pain
