Bilateral duplex kidney

Presentation

Bilateral hydronephrosis on an ultrasound examination.

Patient Data

Age: 25 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

Spot film taken during an IVP shows bilateral duplex kidneys.

On the left side, the ureters have fused at the level of the L3 vertebra.

 On the right side, both ureters have opened into the bladder.

Case Discussion

Bilateral duplex kidneys. Bifid ureter on the left side. Hence a partial duplication.

The most medial ureter on the right, is continuous with the upper pole moiety collecting syste,  in accordance with Weigert-Meyer's law.
