Presentation

Epigastric pain. Past history of cholecystectomy 25 years ago.

Age: 90 years
Gender: Female

The CT images demonstrate a herniation of the retroperitoneal fat through a focal posterolateral defect of the right hemidiaphragm. No other abnormality detected.

Case Discussion

CT features of a Bochdalek hernia (incidental finding).

In adults, Bochdalek hernia is rare, usually incidentally-discovered during an abdominal CT. Right-sided location is more common and more frequent in females (as in this case).
