Breast lipoma and cancer

Preoperative work-up for breast cancer in the upper right quadrant.

Patient Data

Age: 45
Gender: Female

Besides an enhancing 2 cm ductal invasive carcinoma with a small satellite nodule at its lower border, there is a large inferior smoothly marginated mass with homogeneous fat signal intensities, that does not enhance.

Case Discussion

MRI is the most reliable method, not only to identify breast cancer, but also lipomas of the breast (apart from CT, which should be avoided in benign breast lesions for radiation protection).
