Bronchiolitis obliterans

Presentation

Recurrent pneumonia.

Age: 6 years
Gender: Male

Chest radiograph demonstrates thickening and dilatation of the bronchioles.

Bilateral diffused mosaic attenuation patterns representing air trapping and normal parenchyma. There is associated bronchial dilatation with signet ring appearance in the right upper lobe and both lower lobes represent bronchiectasis.

Case Discussion

This young boy now suffers from irreversible abnormal dilatation of the bronchial tree secondary to previous multiple chest infections. This condition is known as bronchiolitis obliterans.
