Budd-Chiari syndrome

Presentation

Abdominal pain and distention.

Patient Data

Age: 35 years
Gender: Female
ct

Post-contrast CT study revealed, enlarged liver with heterogeneous parenchyma, central patchy enhancement and peripherally hypodense / hypoenhancing, giving nutmeg appearance. 

Enlarged caudate lobe. No focal lesion is noted.

The spleen is not enlarged. 

Moderate ascites.

The IVC is attenuated but the hepatic veins are not seen clearly. The gallbladder shows increased wall thickness without gallstone. 

Right sided pleural effusion. 

Case Discussion

Findings are consistent with Budd-chiari syndrome with ascites and right sided pleural effusion.
