Calcified anterior mediastinal mass - thyroid nodule

Presentation

Chest pain.

Patient Data

Age: 70 years
Gender: Male

Calcified anterior mediastinal mass. Mild rightward tracheal deviation. Lungs are clear. Normal cardiomediastinal contour. 

CT demonstrates that the calcified anterior mediastinal mass is a left lobe calcified thyroid nodule in a retrosternal position. Mild rightward tracheal shift. 

Additionally, there are masses at the gastro-esophageal junction, small liver hypodensities, and borderline enlarged mediastinal lymph nodes. 

Case Discussion

This case is an example of "thyroid" in the 5T's of anterior mediastinal masses. The gastro-esophageal masses were proven to be adenocarcinoma on endoscopic biopsy.
