Carotid occlusion

Presentation

Transient ischemic attacks.

Patient Data

Age: 70 years
Gender: Male
ultrasound

Left common, internal and external carotid arteries show complete occlusion of their lumina with absent flow on Doppler. Right carotid vessels show intimomedial thickening with a 3 cm long uniformly echogenic (type 4) plaque. Right bulb shows a plaque with more than 50% hypoechoic area (type 2) with <50% luminal narrowing. Right internal and external carotid arteries show normal flow.
