Carpal tunnel syndrome (MRI)

Diagnosis probable

Presentation

Nocturnal ascending pain emanating from the wrist and numbness of the first three digits of the left hand.

Patient Data

Age: 25 years
Gender: Female
mri

Palmar bowing of the flexor retinaculum is seen.

Enlargement of the median nerve at the level of the pisiform and flattening at the level of the hook of hamate is present.

Edema and loss of normal fat signal within the carpal tunnel are also noted.

A synovial cyst measuring 3 x 9 mm is noted at the medial, palmar aspect of the wrist.

Case Discussion

This patient was referred to with a history of nocturnal ascending pain emanating from the wrist and numbness of the first three digits of the left hand, which in combination with the MRI findings makes the diagnosis of carpal tunnel syndrome likely.
