A thick-walled inflamed diverticulum projecting from the cecal base with surrounding inflammation. The appendix is seen with normal features.
Case Discussion
Diverticula and diverticulitis can form anywhere along the gastrointestinal tract and therefore result in acute diverticulitis. In this case, cecal diverticulitis is a mimic of acute appendicitis, with a normal appendix seen separately.
