There is a right lateral intraventricular lobulated mass of heterogeneous attenuation due to gross calcification, solid enhancing components, and low-density areas that are likely cystic/CSF permeated. It appears attached to the septum pellucidum. The choroid plexus is felt to be displaced inferiorly. Mild ventricular dilatation, but no hydrocephalus.

Case Discussion

Typical appearances on imaging of central neurocytoma

MACROSCOPIC DESCRIPTION: Labeled "Intraventricular tumor".  Two pieces of soft pale tan tissue, 5mm and 4mm. Part of one piece for frozen section. Frozen Section Diagnosis: Central neurocytoma.

MICROSCOPIC DESCRIPTION: Sections show a cellular tumor composed of relatively uniform cells with rounded nuclei and a fine chromatin pattern. There is perivascular pseudorosetting and a fine papillary matrix is present in some areas showing ill-defined rosette-like areas. There is no necrosis and there is no endothelial vascular proliferation. There is no calcification. Mitoses are scant. There is a strong synaptophysin staining.

DIAGNOSIS/COMMENT: Intra ventricular tumor - central neurocytoma.
