Cerebral amyloid angiopathy

Case contributed by A.Prof Frank Gaillard
MRI

MRI demonstrates multiple cerebral microhemorrhages best seen on gradient echo sequence. These are randomly scattered through the brain, largely sparing the basal ganglia and more pronounced in the periphery. A larger hemorrhage is noted in the occipital lobe on the left.

Case Discussion

The findings are characteristic of cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA).
