Presentation

History of severe headache with 1 month of duration and episodes of vomiting in African patient.

Age: 8
Gender: Male

Well-circumscribed roundish cystic lesion in the territory of the right middle cerebral artery, showing no contrast enhancement, perifocal edema or calcifications with prominent mass effect and left-sided midline shift.

mri

Well-defined cystic lesion isointense to CSF in all pulse sequences with no perifocal edema.

Case Discussion

Presented case is highly suggestive of a giant cerebral hydatid cyst with mass effect and midline shift.

The patient underwent surgery and a diagnosis of the cerebral hydatid cyst was confirmed.
