Presentation
Swelling since birth of the posterior cervical region.
Patient Data
There is a large posterior midline cystic structure with no skin covering at the lower cervical spine, communicating with the spinal canal through an open spinal dysraphism of C4 and C5 with herniation of the neural tissue through this defect. No associated cerebral anomalies were seen.
Normal position of the cerebellar tonsils.
Case Discussion
This case shows the classical features of a cervical myelomeningocele through an open spinal dysraphism. The cervical region is considered as the rarest location (around 2%)
