Bilateral lower limb weakness for 4 years.

Patient Data

Age: 25 years
Gender: Female

Marked caudal descent of cerebellar tonsils through the foramen magnum.

Syrinx formation along the spine more prominent in the thoracic level (from T3 to T8).

No hydrocephalus.

Case Discussion

Chiari I malformation is characterized by a caudal descent of the cerebellar tonsils through the foramen magnum. It is more frequently seen in females (as in our case).

Treatment for patient with syrinx consists of decompressing the posterior fossa.
