The ultrasound images demonstrate:
- small posterior fossa
- dilated supratentorial ventricular system
- midline cystic mass with no skin cover at the lumbar region, communicating with the spinal canal through a spinal dysraphism (spina bifida aperta). The adjacent segment of the spinal cord is angulated towards the cystic mass in keeping with myelomeningocele.
- No other associated fetal malformations were seen.
Case Discussion
Ultrasound features of a Chiari II malformation also called Arnold-Chiari malformation.
