Presents with headache and diffuse head swelling 5 days after mechanical fall and scalp laceration.

Patient Data

Age: 55 years
Gender: Male

Unusual progressive diffuse subgaleal soft tissue swelling and edema without significant inflammatory changes of the overlying subcutaneous fat. No intracranial abscess identified and no bone destruction. Little overall meningeal enhancement identified. Thin rim of peripheral enhancement. The appearances presumably represent a subgaleal effusion or abscess.

Case Discussion

Patient went to theater and underwent an incision and drainage which demonstrated extensive purulent material. Cultures grew strep pyogenes.
