Presentation

G3 L2. 17 wks of amenorrhea. No complaints.

Patient Data

Age: 25 yrs
Gender: Female

Single live fetus showed...

ultrasound

Single live fetus showed growth corresponding to LMP. No fetal abnormality is seen.

Static images show rolled up placental edge in all four quadrants.  In real time scan, rolled up placental edge was involving 360 degree of placenta. There is no retro-placental collection.

Case Discussion

Case shows placental morphological variation - circumvallate placenta. It shows rolled up / uplifted placental edge. It is called as complete circumvallate placenta if 100 % ( 360 degree ) of placental circumference involved. If it is less than that; it is called as partial circumvallate placenta. Complete type shows higher risk of complications like placental abruption, preterm labor, IUGR.
