Colloid cyst of the 3rd ventricle

Presentation

Past history surgery for brain lesion.

Patient Data

Age: 35 years
Gender: Male

There is a rounded well-defined lesion (2 cm) at the roof of the 3rd ventricle, obstructing the foramen of Monro with mild to moderate dilatation of the lateral ventricles mainly the temporal and occipital horns. It appears of high signal intensity on T1WI, low signal intensity on FLAIR, T2/T2* with no peripheral enhancement on the postcontrast sequence. Periventricular T2WI high signal intensities are noted as well as a heterogeneous signal on FLAIR and T2WI at the midline structures mainly of the body of the corpus callosum with an area of enhancement extending to the right frontal lobe (site of the previous surgery).

This patient had a surgical attempt through the right frontal lobe to excise the colloid cyst, unfortunately, it was failed according to the patient, only a VP shunt was inserted.
