Femoral neck fractures can be divided into two groups: 

  • Intra-capsular femoral neck fractures (sub-capital, trans-cervical and basi-cervical);
  • Extra-capsular peri-trochanteric fractures (intertrochanteric and subtrochanteric fractures).
