Presentation

The patient with known advanced generalized vascular disease presented with a tender mass in the region of the left groin that developed within a week.

Patient Data

Age: 70 years
Gender: Male
ultrasound

B-mode ultrasound with linear transducer demonstrated a large saccular aneurysm of the common femoral artery with intramural thrombus formation and spontaneous echo contrast indicating turbulent blood flow within the aneurysm sac.

Color mode ultrasound confirmed the turbulent blood flow within the aneurysm, while advanced atherosclerotic wall thickening causing shadowing was observed on the femoral artery distal to the lesion.

Case Discussion

Aneurysms of the common femoral artery are a frequently encountered form of peripheral artery aneurysms and arise primarily due to advanced generalized atherosclerosis
