Presentation

Elevated TSH levels on newborn screening.

Patient Data

Age: Neonate
Nuclear medicine

14.2 MBq of Tc 99m was administered intravenously. Cobal sternal notch marker noted.

There is a focus of isotope uptake noted at the base of the tongue, most in keeping with a lingual thyroid gland.

This demonstrates a case of congenital hypothyroidism as a result of an ectopic thyroid gland.
