Presentation
Left temple swelling for 4 months.
Patient Data
The bones of the left side of the skull and face are markedly expanded with a characteristic ground-glass appearance.
The body of the sphenoid bone as well as the left greater and lesser wings are markedly expanded with obliteration of the left sphenoid sinus and the posterior ethmoid air cells. There is a significant narrowing of the left vidian canal. There are displacement and mild narrowing of the foramen rotundum. There is a mild narrowing of the left inferior and superior orbital fissures and left optic nerve canal with mild proptosis of the left eye globe. There is a marked expansion of the pterygoid process and lateral and medial pterygoid plates.
The temporal bones, including its petrous portion, are markedly involved with sparing of the inner ear structures.
The left maxillary and zygomatic bones are markedly expanded with obliteration of the left maxillary sinus and narrowing of the pterygopalatine fossa, pterygomaxillary fissure and infraorbital canal.
The left alveolar process of the maxilla, the left aspect of the hard palate and the left middle and inferior nasal turbinates are also involved.
Case Discussion
The findings are consistent with craniofacial fibrous dysplasia.
